Along with colleagues at the Universities of Cambridge and Geneva, two members of the UMR 8163 STL have been awarded an ERC Synergy Grant 2024 for their project «LOGIC IN REVERSE REDUX. ILLEGITIMATE ARGUMENTATIVE MOVES IN THE ARABIC, BYZANTINE, HEBREW AND LATIN MEDIEVAL TRADITIONS». Leone GAZZIERO (CNRS), Roberta PADLINA (U. Genève), Shahid RAHMAN (U. Lille), Tony STREET (U. Cambridge) will work with their international teams on the medieval Arabic, Hebrew, Latin and Greek discussions of fallacies and illegitimate argumentative moves. The six-year project will fill a significant gap in our understanding of the history of logic and argumentation theory with the help of the dialogical framework, uncovering and making available in open access a vast and body of material much of which remains unpublished. The project will facilitate access to these resources through editions and translations, which will be made available through logical analysis and a  digital infrastructure that aligns with the Semantic Web vision of a human and machine-friendly knowledge base.
